Medellín is a Digital Nomad Paradise & Here’s Why

As a digital nomad, the world is at my fingertips. I’ve taken Zoom calls all over Latin America while exploring many beaches, mountain towns and urban cities. Of all my travels so far, one destination takes the cake. Here are some reasons why Medellín, Colombia is my favorite destination as a digital nomad.

Generous visas

Once arriving in Colombia, your tourist visa is good for 90 days with an American passport. After around 80 days of travel, you can apply to extend your visa for another 90 days, allowing you to stay in Colombia for up to 180 days! It is important to note, this timeline resets each calendar year.

Dog friendly

I don’t travel alone — I’ve been nomading with my dog, Georgie, since the beginning and Medellín is the most dog-friendly city I’ve lived in thus far! The city is full of sidewalks and dog parks. Also, just about every restaurant and bar allows dogs on their patio!

Lot’s of activities for both nature enthusiasts and party animals

If you enjoy being outside, there’s lots of opportunities for paragliding and hiking in Medellín! If you have a day or two to spare, head to Guatapé for some sightseeing and to hike Piedra del Peñol.

If you prefer to stay indoors, Medellín has tons of clubs with wide genres of music like EDM, Reggaeton, hip-hop, etc. There’s also lots of opportunities for dance lessons! Every night you can find a class and social for things like Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba and more!

Variety of neighborhoods

There are many neighborhoods that are safe and friendly for expats and nomads to live, and they all have a unique charm. If you are looking for a fast-paced lifestyle with lots of parties, restaurants and English-speakers, El Poblado will be perfect! If you prefer a laid-back, local vibe with salsa dancing, Laureles may be the place for you. There are plenty of neighborhoods to check out, and its always a good idea to try a few before settling down.

You will find many other nomads to connect with

Medellín is one of the fastest-growing destinations for digital nomads, and for good reason! There you will find lots of co-working spaces like WeWork and Inspira. There are also lots of groups on WhatsApp and Facebook to join and meet new friends. Once you land in Medellin, you can also head to Gringo Tuesdays and make connections with both nomads and locals. There’s no shortage of places and you within days you will meet other like-minded people to collaborate and build friendships with.

Overall, Colombia is a beautiful country and Medellín is a Digital Nomad paradise

Don’t take my word for it, see for yourself!
